Falko Fantastic

Falko Fantastic, is a renowned graffiti artist from South Africa. He did his first graffiti artwork in 1988 during apartheid South Africa. He has played a significant role in the development of South Africa's graffiti scene. His work is known for tearing down the walls of reality, often creating dreamlike illusions with his hallmark elephants. These elephants are full-color symbols of whimsy but also metaphors for compassion, community, and play.

Falko seeks out unique locations for his art, such as the rooftops of crumbling buildings, under grimy highways, or in small towns that have been long forgotten. His art is intended to be non-intrusive and interact with its surroundings. In 2010, he started a project called "Once Upon A Town," where he painted his way across South Africa, turning poor neighborhoods into open-air galleries that attract tourists. His later sold out show in 2020 ( AfterLife), would find its tribute to these locations by using and abandoned building as the gallery..

Falko's journey as an artist has been quite remarkable. He grew up in Mitchells Plain after his family was uprooted from their home in District Six in Cape Town. Despite the lack of formal art education in his school, he was allowed to paint on the walls, which were quite derelict. This sparked his interest in graffiti art, and he has been dedicated to it ever since.
